US Ambassador (retired) Harriet Isom served for 35 years with the US State Department, 1961-1996. During her last ten years, she was ambassador to Laos, Benin and Cameroon. Earlier assignments took her between Asia (Malaysia, twice in Indonesia and Director of Korean Affairs) and Africa (Niger and Burundi). She retired to her family wheat ranch near Pendleton in northeastern Oregon where she keeps an eye on wheat markets and international affairs in general.
