Gale Blessing represented the Republic of Panamá in Oregon “in charge of the consular affairs” during interim periods from 1973 to 1983, and then as the Honorary Vice Consul of Panamá from 1983 to 1990. In 1991, she became an Emeritus member of the Oregon Consular Corps (OCC). She has served on its Board in 2010 and 2011 and is again on the Board in 2020. She also currently serves as a Board Member on the OCC Scholarship Fund (a 501(c)(3) organization), which underwrites scholarships for 10 students at five Oregon universities, supporting Oregon’s next generation of leaders as they prepare to enter an increasingly global workplace. Both these Boards provide strategic leadership for the organizations. Gale has also held other Board positions in the past, including for the NW EEO/Affirmative Action Association, the Oregon Human Development Corporation, the Portland Opera Guild, and the Washington County Civil Service Commission.
In addition to the consular roles Gale has held, she provided overall strategic direction for over 30 years to the human resources departments in medium and large size organizations, advising their executive staff and boards, as well as collaborating with key internal groups to develop creative policies and programs.
Gale is a member of several professional organizations, including the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber dedicated to advancing Latino economic and community vitality through business development, leadership, education and advocacy. In addition, Gale continues to invest in the University of Portland’s Latinx students through the Blessing Hispanic Endowed Scholarship Fund originally set up by her parents. Furthermore, she volunteers her time for the Mt. Hood Community College Foundation, the OCC Scholarship Committee, and the Oregon Food Bank.
Gale holds a Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree from the University of Portland and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Oregon State University. She continues her lifelong learning pursuits through her travels around the world, experiencing the diverse cultures and history each setting brings.
